photo(4)On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, we hosted our 14th Annual Leacock Debate at the Arcadian Court. The event raised awareness of the new Robert W. Martin Leadership Centre in honour of the late Bob Martin – described by Peter Oliver as the “quintessential leader”, who served as Leacock’s Chairman since 2007. It was a sold-out event, with 450 guests in attendance. This years motion: “Let it be resolved that 140 characters is enough” was debated by a panel of esteemed guests – Anne Fenn, Linda McQuaig, Elizabeth Renzetti, and Elizabeth Bowie. The panel presented their arguments with wit, humour, and even singing. In the end, the team made up of Anne Fenn and Linda McQuaig won the debate with their cases that 140 characters is not enough. Shawn Micallef did an excellent job moderating the event.  We are very pleased to announce that the event netted close to $150K in its first year as a fundraiser.
