Recipe for Learning, YPL’s Cooking Event

Who doesn’t love an evening of eating, drinking and meeting new people! Thank you to everyone who came out on October 18th to the St. Lawrence Market Kitchen. My Place for Dinner hosted a wonderful event for us with engaging and knowledgeable chefs guiding different groups.

Thanks to our drink sponsors we got to enjoy some great wine and Steamwhistle beer while we nibbled on an incredible platter of cheese and charcuterie from The Cheese Boutique.

Peter Oliver, our honorary YPL member, kicked the evening off with a few words about the work of The Leacock Foundation with high needs youth in both Toronto and South Africa. He encouraged us to give back to those who are less fortunate than ourselves and to not be blind to the low income neighbourhoods that exist within our own city.

The group was then divided into four cooking teams where they rotated between stations. Throughout the evening the attendees got to learn how to make sushi:

How to make sun-dried tomato with goat cheese phyllo triangles:

How to cook a beef tenderloin, ensuring you’re using the right pan and the right amount of oil:

How to make and roll gnocchi:

After each station we got to relax and enjoy our hard work:

Check out the silent auction and chat with friends:

And then of course there was dessert!

Thank you to our sponsor JC Clark Investments:

And a huge thank you to everyone who joined us. If you’re not a YPL member yet, it’s easy to sign up! Check out our membership page http://leacockfoundation.org/get-involved-2/membership/ and hopefully we’ll see you at our upcoming Holiday cocktail party and at The Leacock Club’s debate in February.
